VOLUNTOWN – For the sixth year in a row, the Voluntown Economic Development Commission has received a grant from the State Department of Agriculture to promote the town’s farmers market.

The $6,800 grant is less than the town has received in previous years and Voluntown was grateful to receive it, Economic Development Commission Chairman Jack Wesa said.

The money will be used to promote the market through radio and magazine advertisements, Wesa said. It will also pay for a flier that will be mailed to residents in Voluntown, Griswold and Preston to invite them to take part in the market.

“We are happy to receive this grant because it gives us that extra bit of advertising and lets people know that we will be here and to stop by,” Wesa said.
