It’s a toss-up as to who is more excited about the upcoming May 6 Hingham Farmers Market opening day – organizers, vendors, or patrons!

The Market, now in its 41st year, offers seasonal plants, flowers and fresh produce, breads and other bakery, cheese, poultry, pork, beef, seafood, honey, spices, and much more.

Market Manager Bill Marshall is looking forward to the start of the new season. “I’m especially enthusiastic about all the new vendors – they add a new depth to the market’s offerings — as well as our returning vendors,” he said. “I’m expecting the usual crowds – people like us!” he quipped.

Most of the regular vendors will be returning except for a few, most notably Nella Pasta.

“Although we are sad to lose them, we are thrilled that their business has grown into other venues,” said HFM Treasurer Karen Whitfield. “They have been winning specialty food awards and reaching a larger market.” For disappointed fans, the good news is that Nella Pasta products can still be found at the Fruit Center and at more than a dozen other locations in the Boston area.

“They are just one of several success stories we’re proud of, the first being Redeye Roasters, which is now a popular Hingham destination,” said Hingham Farmers Market, Inc. President Mark Cullings. “Baking with Joy, too, has greatly expanded its operation and now has a café and bakery in Rockland. We’ve always thought of ourselves as an ‘enterprise zone,’ offering people with ideas an opportunity to put them in front of the public.”

New vendors

New this season: Rosen’s Naturally Fermented Pickles & Condiments; Jaju Pierogi, selling handmade pierogi; and Myco Terra, offering gourmet mushrooms “We’re never had a mushroom vendor before!” Whitfield said.

Tea is the Way and The Roasted Granola are new to the regular market but were a big hit when they debuted at the Winter Market.
