The Marine City Area Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for this summer’s farmers market with a new location and the addition of an indoor market.
Starting July 13 and running for 16 weeks, the market will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays at the Marine City Lions Club. Hours were extended to accommodate patrons with later lunch hours.
The new location, secured in partnership with the Lions Club, also offers the benefit of a commercial kitchen in preparation for future cooking, canning and preserving classes that will be featured at the market.
Vendors that do not fit in the cottage food industry will also have access to the commercial kitchen. Cottage food does not require time or temperature control for safety and can be produced in a home kitchen. The products cannot be sold to retail stores, wholesalers or restaurants.
The market season will include the usual mix of farmers and vendors with varying offerings. In addition to freshly picked fruits and vegetables, the season will also include activities, food demonstrations, crafting for adults and music.
